Northeast Afghanistan

This section covers the Northeastern portion of Afghanistan. The historic region of Bactria spanned territory that included parts of northern Afghanistan — Kunduz was an important city — plus areas that are now in Uzbekistan or Tajikistan.

The Wakhan Corridor is the little panhandle of Badakhshan Province in the far northeast of Afghanistan, a long narrow area wedged between Tajikistan to the north and Pakistan to the south.

Panjshir Valley is in Afghanistan. Panjshir valley is divided in to five regions, starting from Taawakh, Rokha, Baazarak,Baadqol and to the bottom Omarz.

The Shamali Plain is north of Kabul. Shamali, meaning 'windy' or 'northern,' is a green plain which produced a lot of the food for central Afghanistan.

Nuristan is in the Northeast part of Afghanistan. Nuristan is one of the most remote areas on Earth, right up in the Hindu Kush mountains.

Ai-Khanoum was an important city a few centuries BCE when Alexander and his successors ruled Bactria.

Kunduz also known as Kundûz, Qonduz, Qondûz, Konduz, Kondûz, Kondoz, or Qhunduz is a major city in the North of Afghanistan.
