The Tighina Fortress was a 15th-century fortress on the right bank of the Dniester River in Bender, Moldova, built from earth and wood during the reign of Prince Stephen the Great. Bendery Fortress is situated 3½ km east of Proteagailovca.

Varnița is a village in the Anenii Noi District, in south-eastern Moldova, located near Bender. It is also considered a suburb of Bender. After the 1992 War of Transnistria, Varnița remained controlled by the government of the Republic of Moldova, while the city of Bender is controlled by the authorities of Transnistria. Varnița is situated 5 km northeast of Proteagailovca.
