Rozhen Observatory, also known as the Bulgarian National Astronomical Observatory, is an astronomical observatory, located in the Smolyan Province, 90 kilometers south of the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. National Astronomical Observatory - Rozhen is situated 3 km northeast of Progled.

Pamporovo is a ski and mountain resort in the Western Rhodope Mountains in southern Bulgaria, not far from Smolyan. Established in the 1930s, it's one of the most famous ski resorts in the country and hosts international winter sports competitions.
