Mmabatho is the former capital of the North-West Province of South Africa. During the apartheid era, it was the capital of the former "Bantustan" of Bophuthatswana, separated from the adjacent Mafeking which temporarily remained outside Bophuthatswana. Mmabatho is situated 4½ km south of Mtsimane.

Mahikeng, also known as Mafikeng and Mafeking, is a town of 15,000 people in North West Province, South Africa. The town has many resorts, popular around the summer season. It is famous for the Siege of Mafeking, in which Robert Baden-Powell rose to fame.
