Phoenix is a South African town about 25 kilometres northwest of Durban Central, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was established as a town by the apartheid government in 1979, but it has a long history of Indian occupation. Phoenix is situated 2½ km west of Mount Edgecomb.

Umhlanga, meaning "place of reeds", is a town of 24,000 people on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Although it takes on the character of a Durban exurb, its significant growth due in part to its proximity to King Shaka International Airport and tourism potential has resulted in it becoming a new economic hub for Durban.
