Cheung Chau is one of the most populous of the Outlying Islands of Hong Kong with a population of 23,000. The island is also referred to as "dumbbell island" in Cantonese due to its shape.

Kwun Yam Beach, also known as Afternoon Beach, is a gazetted beach facing Kwun Yam Wan on the east coast of Cheung Chau, Hong Kong. The beach is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government.
