Slope Point is the southernmost point of the South Island of New Zealand. Slope Point lies 24 kilometres south of the small settlement of Waikawa, near the southwestern edge of the Catlins and Toetoes Bay and 70 kilometres east of Invercargill. Slope Point is situated 2½ km west of Waipohatu Stream.

Waikawa is a small settlement at the mouth of the Waikawa River in Southland, New Zealand, at the southwestern edge of The Catlins. The township is now a small fishing settlement, but at one time in the late 19th century was a major port, shipping timber from the sawmills of the Catlins north to help build the new town of Dunedin. Waikawa is situated 9 km northeast of Waipohatu Stream.
