Ribat of Monastir

The Ribat of Monastir is a ribat, an Islamic defensive structure, in Monastir, Tunisia. It is the oldest ribat built by the Arab conquerors during the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb. It is also the most prominent monument of the city of Monastir.

The Great Mosque of Monastir is a historical mosque located in Monastir, Tunisia. Located on the outskirts of the city overlooking the sea, near the Ribat of Monastir, the mosque is characterized by the high exterior facades built of stone, frames surrounding the windows and doors, as well as arches that extend along the mihrab.

The Bourguiba mausoleum is a monumental grave in Monastir, Tunisia, containing the remains of former president Habib Bourguiba, the father of Tunisian independence, who died on April 6, 2000.

It is a commune of the Monastir Governorate, with a total municipal area of 18.17 km² and a population of 12,627 as of the 2024 census, up from 11,229 in 2014, reflecting an annual growth rate of 1.1% over the intercensal decade. Khniss is situated 8 km south of Djeziret Sidi El Ghadamsi.
