Hassi Gara is a town and commune in El Ménia District, Ghardaïa Province, Algeria. According to the 2008 census it has a population of 17,801, up from 13,911 in 1998, with an annual growth rate of 2.5%. It is effectively a suburb of the larger town El Goléa. Hassi El Garra is situated 4 km northwest of Hassi el Gara.

El Menia is an oasis town and commune, and capital of El Ménia District, in the homonymous El Menia Province, Algeria. The former name is El Goléa; together in Arabic, the two names mean Impregnable Castle.
