Lake Tonga is a freshwater lake located in El-Kala National Park, in the wilaya of El Tarf, Algeria. It was designated a Ramsar site on 11 April 1983 and is recognized as a major nesting area in North Africa. Lake Tonga is situated 3½ km east of Forêt Domaniale d’El Kala.

El Kala is a seaport of Northeast Algeria, in El Tarf Province, 90 km by rail east of Annaba and 16 km west of the Tunisian frontier. It is the centre of the Algerian and Tunisian coral fisheries and has an extensive industry in the curing of sardines.
