Madeira is a sub-tropical archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean and is an autonomous region of . The archipelago is made up of two populated islands, Madeira and , and two groups of unpopulated islands called the Desertas and Selvagens Islands.

is the second highest peak on the Atlantic island of Madeira, . It lies roughly midway between the and Pico do Arieiro at an elevation of 1,853 metres and is only accessible from the trail between these two peaks.
