The Dachstein is a 20 x 30 km limestone massif in the Northern Calcareous Alps, in Austria. The summit is at 3,000 m, with dozens of other peaks above 2,500 m.

Hoher Dachstein is a strongly karstic mountain in central Austria and the second-highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps. It is situated at the border of Upper Austria and Styria, and is the highest point in each of those states. Hoher Dachstein is situated 3½ km northeast of Brandwald.
