It is located 10 km west of Løgumkloster, 34 km south of Ribe and 14 km north of Tønder and is served by Bredebro railway station on the Bramming–Tønder railway line. Bredebro is situated 3½ km southwest of Tønder Municipality.

Its name testifies that the town was once the site of the Cistercian Løgum Abbey, in the then Roman Catholic diocese of Ribe. Løgumkloster is situated 6 km east of Tønder Municipality.
