Hlíðarendi
Hlíðarendi is a famous place in Icelandic historical literature. Hlíðarendi in Old Icelandic means 'Slope's End'. Gunnar Hámundarson the Viking hero from Njals Saga used to live in Hlíðarendi at Fljótshlíð, and in later times there were traditional Icelandic turf covered farm houses, and a church and churchground which is still there.| Tap on a place to explore it |

As the most prominent member of a series of waterfalls running from the river Merkjá, it is also known as Merkjárfoss; both names are acknowledged on an on-site signpost. Gluggafoss is situated 3 km east of Hlíðarendi.
