Opened in 1878, it is adjacent to the northern portal of the Simplon Tunnel and is served by two standard gauge lines. Brig railway station is situated 3 km east of Mundbach.

It is the meeting point of two 1,000 mm metre gauge railway lines of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, the BVZ Zermatt-Bahn and the Furka Oberalp Railway. Brig Bahnhofplatz railway station is situated 3 km east of Mundbach.
