The municipality was formed in 1969 in a reform of Herford by combining the villages of Lippinghausen, Eilshausen, Schweicheln-Bermbeck, Hiddenhausen, Oetinghausen and Sundern. Hiddenhausen is situated 3 km south of Oberbehme.
