Neehausen

Neehausen is a village and a former municipality in the Mansfeld-Südharz district, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the municipality Seegebiet Mansfelder Land.

Historic site

The Hassegau was a medieval shire in the Eastphalia region of the Duchy of Saxony. It was located in the duchy's southeastern corner; confined by the Saale river to the east and its Unstrut and Wipper tributaries to the south and north.

The Schochwitz castle, located in Schochwitz, Germany was built in the 12th century. Today it serves as a hotel. Earliest sources mention a castle about 1133 in conjunction with Odalricus de Scochwize who was the owner of the castle. Schochwitz Castle is situated 3½ km east of Neehausen.
