Gross-Rosen was a network of Nazi concentration camps built and operated by Nazi Germany during World War II. The main camp was located in the German village of Gross-Rosen, now the modern-day in , Poland, directly on the rail-line between the towns of and . is situated 3 km northeast of Borów.

The German name of the village, Rohnstock, originates from Old High German "rono", Middle High German "rone" = tree trunk and “stoc" = stock of trees and came about because the trees were felled at this point and the stocks were cleaned. is situated 2½ km southwest of Borów.
