Cherbourg Naval Base is a naval base in Cherbourg Harbour, Cherbourg, Manche department, Normandy. The town has been a base of the French Navy since the opening of the military port in 1813. Cherbourg Naval Base is situated 340 metres north of Port Militaire.

French submarine Redoutable

Le Redoutable was the lead boat of her class of ballistic missile submarines in the French Marine nationale. Commissioned on 1 December 1971, the boat was the first French SNLE. French submarine Redoutable is situated 1¼ km east of Port Militaire.

Cherbourg is a port town at the north end of the Cotentin Peninsula in Manche, France. Cherbourg is located near the D-Day beaches where Allied forces landed in 1944 during World War II. The town was liberated by American troops shortly after that.
