The Abbey of Aghaboe is one of the most important of the abbeys and priories in County Laois. It was founded in the kingdom of Osraige by St. Canice in the 6th century. Aghaboe Abbey is situated 2½ km west of Ballycuddahy.

Abbeyleix is a town in County Laois in the midlands of Ireland, with a population of 1770 in 2016. The abbey was Cistercian, founded in 1183 in the valley of the River Nore, and the original settlement grew up around it. Aghaboe is situated 2½ km west of Ballycuddahy.
