De Nieuwe Molen is the oldest and the largest extant mill in South Africa and was built in 1782 near the Black River. The mill is situated in the Alexandra Hospital in Maitland, Cape Town and was declared a National Monument in 1978. De Nieuwe Molen is situated 130 metres northwest of Oude Molen.

It is situated in the suburb of Observatory between the banks of the Liesbeek and Black Rivers, overlooking Devil's Peak in the distance. Valkenberg Hospital is situated 750 metres south of Oude Molen.
