Somerset is a small, unincorporated village in the northwest area of Bermuda, located in Sandys Parish. It lies in the northern half of Somerset Island.

Southampton Parish is one of the nine parishes of Bermuda. At the southwest of the island chain, it occupies all of the western part of the main island, except for the westernmost tip.

HMD Bermuda was the principal base of the Royal Navy in the Western Atlantic between American independence and the Cold War. The Imperial fortress colony of Bermuda had occupied a useful position astride the homeward leg taken by many European vessels from the New World since before its settlement by England in 1609. Royal Naval Dockyard is situated 7 km northeast of Whale Island.
