San Salvador is a department of in the west central part of the country. The capital is San Salvador, which is also the national capital. The department has North of the Rio Lempa Valley, the "Valle de las Hamacas" and a section of Lake Ilopango.

The is a museum located in San Salvador, El Salvador. It was founded in the late 1990s by the Venezuelan journalist Carlos Henríquez Consalvi as a dedicated to collecting and preserving memories of the Salvadoran civil war, incorporating memories across the political spectrum.
