Cité Soleil is an extremely impoverished and densely populated commune located in the metropolitan area in . Cité Soleil originally developed as a shanty town and grew to an estimated 200,000 to 400,000 residents, the majority of whom live in extreme poverty.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, often called , was a cathedral in , . Built between 1884 and 1914, it was dedicated on December 13, 1928, and became the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince.
