Vaipo Waterfall is a waterfall on the island of Nuku Hiva, in the Marquesas of French Polynesia. It is a horsetail-type waterfall with a single drop of height 1148 ft, making it the tallest waterfall in Polynesia outside of New Zealand and Hawaii. Vaipō Falls is situated 3½ km north of Hakaui.

Fort Madison, on Nuku Hiva at Taioha'e Bay, was the first naval base of the United States in the Pacific Ocean. It was built by Commodore David Porter in October and November 1813, during the Nuku Hiva Campaign of the War of 1812, for protecting the settlement of Madisonville from British and Marquesan attacks. Fort Madison, Nuku Hiva is situated 9 km east of Hakaui.
