It is part of the greater Eglin Air Force Base reservation and is home to Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command, the 1st Special Operations Wing, the USAF Special Operations School and the Air Combat Command's 505th Command and Control Wing. Hurlburt Field is situated 2½ miles northwest of Mary Esther Elementary School.
