Buras is a census-designated place in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, United States. Its population was 945 at the 2010 census, and 1,109 in 2020. Prior to the 2010 census, Buras was considered to be part of the Buras-Triumph CDP. Buras is situated 1½ miles south of Bayou Tortillon.

Fort Jackson is a historic masonry fort located 40 miles up river from the mouth of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. It was constructed as a coastal defense of New Orleans, between 1822 and 1832, and it was a battle site during the American Civil War. Fort Jackson is situated 4½ miles east of Bayou Tortillon.
