Established in 1927, Burr Oak was one of the few early Chicago cemeteries focused on the needs of the African-American community, it is the final resting place of many African-American celebrities, including Chicago blues musicians and athletes. Burr Oak Cemetery is situated 3,000 feet northwest of First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
