The Eagle's Nest Art Colony, the site known in more modern times as the Lorado Taft Field Campus, was founded in 1898 by American sculptor Lorado Taft on the bluffs flanking the east bank of the Rock River, overlooking Oregon, Illinois. Eagle’s Nest Art Colony is situated 2½ miles south of Rockvale Township.

The Byron Clean Energy Center is a nuclear power plant located in Ogle County, Illinois, 2 miles east of the Rock River. The reactor buildings were constructed by Commonwealth Edison and house two Westinghouse Four-Loop pressurized water reactors, Unit 1 and Unit 2, which began operation in September 1985 and August 1987 respectively. Byron Nuclear Generating Station is situated 2½ miles east of Rockvale Township.
