Ely is a town of 3,400 people in Northeastern Minnesota. Ely is best known as a popular entry point for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the International Wolf Center, and the North American Bear Center.

Winton is a city in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 169 at the 2020 census. The city is home to a small hydroelectric dam on the edge of Garden Lake, one of 11 stations owned by Minnesota Power. Winton is situated 2½ miles northeast of City of Ely.
