Copake is a town in Columbia County, New York, United States. The population was 3,346 at the 2020 US census, down from 3,615 at the 2010 census. The town derives its name from a lake, which was known to the natives as Cook-pake, or Ack-kook-peek, meaning "Snake Pond".Places of Interest

Washburn Mountain is a 1,496-foot-tall mountain in New York. It is located south-southeast Copake Falls in Columbia County. From 1932 to 1964, the mountain was the location of a 60-foot-tall steel fire lookout tower now located on Beebe Hill. Alander Mountain is located southeast of Washburn Mountain. Washburn Mountain is situated 2½ miles southeast of Town of Copake.
