Ringing rocks, also known as sonorous rocks or lithophonic rocks, are rocks that resonate like a bell when struck. Examples include the Musical Stones of Skiddaw in the English Lake District; the stones in Ringing Rocks Park, in Upper Black Eddy, Bucks County, Pennsylvania; the Ringing Rocks of Kiandra, New South Wales; and the Bell Rock Range of Western Australia.

As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 1,232, a decrease of one person from the 2010 census count of 1,233, which in turn reflected an increase of 38 from the 1,195 counted in the 2000 census. Milford is situated 2 miles east of Ringing Rock.

Amsterdam is an unincorporated community located within Holland Township in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Located on the southern flank of the Musconetcong Mountain, the area was settled in the first half of the 18th century. Amsterdam is situated 2½ miles northwest of Ringing Rock.
