The light and attached fog horn building sits within a 10-mile long sand bar – stretching between the ports of Duluth and Superior. Wisconsin Point Light is situated 1,800 feet northeast of South Pierh Light.

Built in 1858, it was the first lighthouse in the state, but is now a truncated ruined tower. Minnesota Point Light is situated 3,500 feet west of South Pierh Light.
