Housatonic State Forest is a Connecticut state forest occupying 10,894 acres in the towns of Sharon, Canaan, Cornwall, and North Canaan. The state forest includes two Connecticut natural area preserves, Gold's Pines and Canaan Mountain, and is the only Connecticut state forest that includes a portion of the Appalachian Trail.
Dean’s Ravine Falls

Dean's Ravine Falls is a 50-foot-tall waterfall formed along Reed Brook in Canaan, Connecticut. The falls were once a "must-see" spot along the 2,180-mile-long Appalachian Trail, until the trail was rerouted west of the Housatonic River through Sharon, Connecticut in the early 1980s. Dean’s Ravine Falls is situated 1¼ miles west of Barrack Cemetery.

The Cream Hill Shelter is a rustic log shelter in Housatonic State Forest in Cornwall, Connecticut. Built in 1988, it replaced what was at the time one of three surviving log shelters constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in Connecticut. Cream Hill Shelter is situated 4,100 feet south of Barrack Cemetery.
