The peak is in the Eagle Cap Wilderness, towering over Mirror Lake, with the Benson Glacier along the east flank of the summit ridge. Eagle Cap is situated 2 miles south of Douglas Lake.

Benson Glacier was a glacier in the U.S. state of Oregon and the last active glacier in the Wallowa Mountains. Situated at an elevation generally above 8,500 feet on the northeastern slopes Glacier Peak, a subpeak of Eagle Cap, it is now a stagnant ice mass. Benson Glacier is situated 2 miles south of Douglas Lake.
