Fort Pierre Chouteau

Fort Pierre Chouteau, also just Fort Pierre, was a major trading post and military outpost in the mid-19th century on the west bank of the Missouri River in what is now central South Dakota. Fort Pierre Chouteau is situated 2½ miles south of Downstream Recreation Area.

The Oahe Dam is a large earthen dam on the Missouri River, just north of Pierre, South Dakota, United States. Begun in 1948 and opened in 1962, the dam creates Lake Oahe, the fourth-largest man-made reservoir in the United States. Oahe Dam is situated 2 miles north of Downstream Recreation Area.
