Boom Mountain is located north of Vermilion Pass and straddles the Continental Divide marking the Alberta-British Columbia border. It was named in 1908 after Boom Lake which is located right under the mountain.

Mount Whymper is a 2,845-metre mountain located in the Canadian Rockies, British Columbia, Canada, in the Vermilion Pass area in Kootenay National Park. Mount Whymper is situated 3½ km southwest of Boom Mountain.
