Built between 1854 and 1860, it is the oldest standing building in Saskatchewan and is constructed in the Carpenter Gothic style. Its location is on the banks of the Churchill River, 80 kilometres northeast of the town of La Ronge, 305 kilometres north of Prince Albert. Stanley Mission is situated 4½ km southwest of Gilchrist Island.
