Uxbridge is a mostly suburban community of 21,000 people in northern Durham region of the Greater Toronto Area, in Ontario. It has a museum in the former home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the famed author of the Anne of Green Gables novels.

Historically, Claremont was part of Pickering Township, Ontario County, Ontario until 1974 when Ontario County was amalgamated into the Regional Municipality of Durham, which had just been established.
