The Pukaki River flows through the Mackenzie Basin, Canterbury, in New Zealand's South Island. Originally, the river flowed southwest for 15 kilometres from the southern end of Lake Pukaki before joining with the Tekapo River and flowing into the northern end of Lake Benmore.Places in the Area

Twizel is Mackenzie Country's largest town in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. Although it's the largest town in Mackenzie Country, it's well-visited as it's the closest decently-sized town to Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park.
