Ashburton Aerodrome is a small airport 2 NM to the east of Ashburton township on the east coast of the South Island, New Zealand. Newmans Air operated a Christchurch to Queenstown service via Ashburton in the 1980s which allowed skiers to connect to the nearby skifield of Mt. Ashburton Aerodrome is situated 2½ km south of Thurso.

Ashburton College is a state coeducational secondary school located in Ashburton, New Zealand. It opened in 1965 following the merger of two Ashburton secondary schools: Ashburton High School and Hakatere College, and moved to its current site in 1974. Ashburton College is situated 3½ km southwest of Thurso.
