Van Asch Deaf Education Centre was located in Truro Street, Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand. It was a special school for deaf children, accepting both day and residential pupils, as well being as a resource centre providing services and support for parents, mainstream students and their teachers in the South Island and the Lower North Island. Van Asch College is situated 1½ km east of Captain Thomas Walkway.

Clifton is a hillside suburb above Sumner in Christchurch, New Zealand. Clifton is a volcanic spur extending from Tauhinukorokio / Mount Pleasant. Most of Clifton was originally purchased by Dr Alfred Barker, who had applied for a 50 acres land grant from the Christchurch land office.
