The Mason River is a river of the north Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It flows south from the Amuri Range, at the foot of the Mason Hills before turning southwest to reach the Waiau River just to the west of the township of Waiau.Places of Interest

Mount Lyford is a peak in the Amuri Range to the west of Kaikōura in the South Island of New Zealand. It is also the name of a ski area to the north of the peak, and an alpine village and ski resort to the south. Mount Lyford is situated 3 km west of Mason River.
