The Makahu River is a river of New Zealand's North Island. It flows generally north from its origins in the Kaweka Range, reaching the Mohaka River in rough hill country southeast of Lake Taupō. About half of the river's length is within Kaweka Forest Park.Places of Interest

Kaweka J, also known as Mount Kaweka or Kaweka, is the highest mountain in the Kaweka Range. Situated in the central North Island of New Zealand, it has a total height of 1,724 metres. The mountain is the highest point in the Hawke's Bay region. Kaweka J is situated 3 km southwest of Makahu River.
