Shinsen-en is a garden with Buddhist temple located in the approximate center of the modern city of Kyoto, Japan. The temple belongs to the Tō-ji-branch of Shingon-shū and its honzon is a statue of Sho-Kannon. Shinsen-en is situated 280 metres south of Nijō Castle.

First established in 1879, it has been merged and split, and took on its present boundaries in 1955, with the establishment of a separate Minami-ku. Kyoto Tower and Kyoto Station are major landmarks in Shimogyō-ku. Shimogyō-ku is situated 3 km south of Nijō Castle.
