Karlstor

Karlstor in Munich is a medieval city gate, which served as a defensive fortification and a checkpoint. It is located at the western end of Neuhauser Straße, a portion of Munich's down-town pedestrian zone, which was part of the salt road and the east–west thoroughfare of the historic old town. Karlstor is situated 180 metres southeast of Hotel Königshof.

The Mathäser is a beer hall in Munich, west of the Karlsplatz. It had a variety of buildings and uses over the centuries but was especially known for its beer. Mathäser is situated 100 metres southwest of Hotel Königshof.

It is one of the three stations with long-distance services in Munich, the others being Munich East station and Munich-Pasing station. Altstadt meaning "old city" is the very heart of Munich. Three gates are all that remain of the medieval defensive walls, but within is a well-preserved district with many of Munich's iconic sights: twin-towered Frauenkirche, New City Hall with clockwork figures dancing to the chimes of its Glockenspiel, and Hofbräuhaus that temple to drinking and gorging.

Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt is the district of Munich immediately south and west of Altstadt, which is the historic centre. It's where most visitors arrive, as it's the transport hub, with trains from all parts of Germany, S-Bahn commuter lines from the airport and elsewhere in the city, and the central bus station.
