Gwacheon is in , just south of . The city grew as a planned city in 1980s and 90s when many of the government offices and facilities was moved from Seoul.

The Seonbawi Museum of Art is an art in , . It was designed and built on an 800-pyeong site, by the late artist Lee Seoji in 2004.
