Theater building
The , in its current form, was designed by architect Clemens Holzmeister in 1956 for the Salzburg Festival in . It was inaugurated on 26 July 1960 with a performance of Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier conducted by Herbert von Karajan, who also worked with Holzmeister on aspects of the building's design.

The , or House for Mozart, is a 1,500-seat theatre of the Salzburg Festival in the city of that name in . It was established in 1925 when horse stables were converted into a venue for the mystery plays that were a main facet of the five-year-old festival, becoming the festival's first dedicated performance space, its Festspielhaus.
