Museum
The Works is an interactive children's museum in Bloomington, Minnesota that focuses on technology and engineering. The museum was conceived by Rebecca Schatz, a software engineer who was inspired by a visit to the Exploratorium in San Francisco, and by the hands-on technical education for children that she observed during a year as a Luce Scholar in Japan in 1984. The Works is situated 1½ miles southeast of Penn-Lake Shopping Center.

On August 5, 2017, Emily Claire Hari, Michael McWhorter, and Joe Morris of Clarence, Illinois detonated an improvised explosive near the mosque, which damaged the structure but no one was hurt, in an effort to scare Muslims into leaving the United States. Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center is situated 2½ miles east of Penn-Lake Shopping Center.
