It is known as one of the three mizujiro, or "castles on the sea", in Japan, with Takamatsu Castle in Kagawa Prefecture and Imabari Castle in Ehime Prefecture. Nakatsu Castle is situated 3½ km northeast of Kōge-machiyakuba.
